Privacy Policy

Lovecraft is operated by SyncIRL LLC ("Lovecraft," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect when you use the Lovecraft mobile application, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

1. Age requirement

Lovecraft is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we delete it promptly. If you believe a minor is using Lovecraft, contact us immediately at support@lovecraft.com.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us:

• Account information: name, email address, date of birth, and password when you create an account. Date of birth is required to confirm you are 18 or older and to apply your age preferences.
• Phone number: collected during phone verification and used to confirm you are a real person and to secure your account.
• Profile information: photos, bio, gender, and interests you choose to share.
• Dating and connection preferences: what you are looking for (dating, friendship, or both), the age range you want to match within, and the activities you are interested in. You control all of this and can change or clear it at any time.
• Payment information: processed by Stripe, Inc. We never store your full card number.

Information collected automatically:

• Location: with your permission, we collect your approximate location to show nearby dates, venues, and people. Your exact location is never shown to another user — other users see only an approximate distance. You can turn location off in your device settings, though some features will not work without it.
• Device information: device type, operating system, and app version, for troubleshooting.
• Usage information: which activities and venues you view or express interest in, used to improve matching and recommendations.

3. How we use your information

• Create and secure your account, and verify you are 18 or older.
• Suggest matches and dates based on your preferences, your interests, and your general location.
• Show you activities, venues, and events near you.
• Arrange and confirm meetups, including reserving or ticketing an activity where that applies.
• Keep the community safe: investigate reports, enforce our Terms, and prevent fraud, harassment, and abuse.
• Send you service messages about your account, your matches, and your plans.

4. What other users can see

This is the part worth reading twice.

• Visible to people you are matched with or shown to: your first name, your photos, your bio, your age, and your shared interests.
• Never visible to other users: your exact location, your phone number, your email address, your date of birth, and your payment details.
• Venue details are withheld until a plan is confirmed. Where a date is arranged around a venue, the specific location is revealed only once both people have confirmed, not while you are still deciding.

5. SMS and phone communications

Consent to receive text messages is never required to use Lovecraft. Accepting our Terms does not opt you in to any text message program. Creating an account, verifying your phone number, matching, and confirming a date never require SMS consent. You can decline text messages and still use every part of the service.

One-time verification codes. When you choose to verify your phone number, we send a single one-time passcode to that number to confirm it belongs to you. It is sent only in response to your own request, it is not a recurring message program, and it is not marketing. Requesting a code does not enroll you in any other messages.

Lovecraft does not send marketing or promotional text messages. We do not share your mobile phone number or any SMS consent with third parties for their own marketing or promotional purposes.

6. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these circumstances:

• With other users: the profile information described in Section 4, and nothing more.
• Service providers: companies that operate the app on our behalf, including Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (payments), Twilio (phone verification), Resend (email), and Mapbox (maps). They may access only what they need to perform their service.
• Venues: where you confirm a booking or reservation, we share what the venue needs to hold it, such as a first name and party size. We do not share your dating preferences, your profile, or your contact details with venues.
• Safety and legal: we may disclose information where required by law or legal process, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect the safety of a user or the public.
• Business transfers: if SyncIRL LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction.

7. Safety, blocking, and reporting

You can block another user at any time. Blocking is mutual and silent: the blocked person is not told, and the two of you will not be shown to each other or placed together again.

You can report behavior that violates our Terms. We review reports and may suspend or remove accounts. We retain records relating to a report, including relevant messages, for as long as needed to investigate and to keep the person from returning.

Lovecraft does not conduct criminal background checks. Verification confirms a phone number, not a person's character. Please take the ordinary precautions you would with anyone you have not met: meet in public, and tell someone you trust where you are going.

8. Data security

We use industry-standard protections including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, secure authentication, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your choices and rights

• Access and correction: you can view and edit your profile, preferences, and photos in the app at any time.
• Delete your account: you can request deletion at any time by contacting support@lovecraft.com. We process deletion requests within 30 days. Some records may be retained where we are legally required to keep them, or where they relate to a safety report.
• Location: revoke location access in your device settings.
• Notifications: manage push notifications in the app or your device settings.
• Residents of certain regions (including the EEA, UK, and several US states) have additional rights over their personal data, such as access, portability, correction, and erasure. Email support@lovecraft.com to exercise them and we will respond as required by applicable law.

10. Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active. After deletion we remove your profile and personal data, except records we must retain for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, or safety reasons.

11. Third-party links and services

Lovecraft may link to third-party websites or services, including venue and booking platforms. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their policies before providing them information.

12. California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Under California law, the following categories of personal information are treated as sensitive, and Lovecraft collects some of them: precise geolocation, and information about your sex life or sexual orientation to the extent your dating preferences reveal it. We use this information only to operate the service, specifically to show you nearby activities and to match you according to the preferences you set. We do not use or disclose it for any other purpose, and we never sell it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Lovecraft after a change means you accept the updated policy. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version.
